Truth of JNU Videos: Free speech or Sedition?

2016 anti national nationals JNU protests videos अभिव्यक्ति की स्वतंत्रता

Indian Cinema has some beautiful movies which leave us with a moral. One such movie is Deewar – The mother, Nirupa Roy decides to leave her favorite son Amitabh, after she comes to know that he has been doing illegal activities (Smuggling) and goes to stay with her other son who makes a humble living.

In February this year, a supposed to be ‘students’ protest’ created a nationwide uproar when anti – India slogans (‘Bharat ki barbaadi, bharat k tukde honge) were raised. Kanhaiya, Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya were arrested on charges of sedition, evidence was a raw video footage aired on Zee News. It was declared authentic on its first examination to a Gandhinagar-based Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL).

Strangely these videos were sent to a Hyderabad based lab again, which declared 2 of the 7 videos doctored. A Zee News producer, Vishwa Deepak, even resigned from the channel. Some media houses, political parties and opportunists shifted the entire focus to the 2 videos and away from the 5 other video which were still authentic, and painted a hero out of Kanhaiya Kumar.

The shameful act of raising anti-India slogans, in JNU – a government funded educational institution was being portrayed as ‘Free Voice’ of the youth.

After a reprimand from the court and release on bail, the ‘poor man’s son’ appeared in a leather jacket and started giving speeches and throwing jibes at our Prime Minister. This controversy created a political career for Kanhaiya and made the leftist happy.

And now once again these videos have been declared authentic by the CBI.

The raw footage of the JNU Event, obtained from a Hindi news channel, was sent to the CBI forensic lab in New Delhi for examination along with camera, memory card, a CD containing the clip, wires and other equipment, they said.

“The CBI lab sent a report to Delhi Police’s Special Cell on June 8 saying the videos were authentic,” a police source said.

Special Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Arvind Deep confirmed the receipt of report but did not divulge the details.

There were media houses who were praising Kanhaiya, political parties that supported the JNU protest and even asked Kanhaiya to campaign for them. The interesting thing to see now is whether all such people supporting the JNU protest, now, if not admit their mistake, at least change their opinion. Would they become the Nirupa Roy of Deewar, leave their beloved Kanhaiya and do what is right? I wonder.

Free voice is a pillar of democracy. But calling anti-nationalism as free voice for one’s own political interest is not just shameful but grossly stupid. It shows that some of us have not learnt anything from history and would still support those people who just want to disturb the peace of our country.

An average individual easily understands what is right, but the question is how many such ‘average’ individuals we have in our country!
