Killer, Femme Fatale, Dominatrix, Honey Trap. Probably these names are associated with women, who use their ravishing pulchritude for a rather sinister, maybe deadly purpose. Most of you are aware of pernicious beauties like Mata Hari, even the fictional Irene Adler is a member of this deadly club. Vishkanyas of Mauryan age are also a part of the same. However, what not many of us know is the existence of a dominatrix, hailing from our very own India, who has ruled the silver screens with an élan, and is now using the same beauty for the deadly objective of drug trafficking, and allegedly spreading the menace of drug cartels in India. Her name is Mamta Kulkarni, a dangerously beautiful menace which India should be aware of.
For those, who don’t know of her, Mamta Kulkarni is the queen of controversies, and a predecessor of Rakhi Sawant (only exception being that she is more beautiful and sensible, thus more dangerous). Born on 20th April 1972, in Mumbai, to a Marathi speaking household, Mamta had trouble in speaking fluent Hindi, a prerequisite for being a Bollywood actor then. However, she overcame her troubles, and made her debut in the famous 1992-93 flick ‘Tirangaa’, with Nana Patekar and Raj Kumar as co-stars.
Once Tirangaa set the cash registers ringing, Mamta was on cloud nine.
Mamta Kulkarni starred in major hits, like ‘Sabse Bada Khiladi’ (1993), Baazi (1995), Naseeb (1997), ‘Karan Arjun’ (1995), Waqt Hamara Hai (1993), Krantiveer (1994) etc. Sounds good, right?
A top actress, overcoming her initial glitches, makes well for a good script.
But Bollywood is not so famous for nothing. ‘Her’ alleged relationship with crime is like Godfather to their fans, a deep and symbolic one. Right from the times, when ‘Mr. White’ (only by clothes) smuggler Haji Mastan financed Bollywood films, to the time when underworld kingpin Dawood Ibrahim lusted for newbie Mandakini, Mamta Kulkarni is also a specimen of the same illicit love Bollywood has for the world of crime.
Mamta’s alleged contracts with underworld, including underworld don Chhota Rajan, enabled her to acquire films without any hassles, even when the filmmakers were dead against her (Rajkumar Santoshi, for example, had to include her in the item songs of ‘Ghatak’ (1996), & the famous Chamma Chamma from ‘China Gate’ (1997), courtesy Chhota Rajan even though Mamta withdrew from that later, giving place to her archrival, Urmila Matondkar)
However, the icing on Mamta’s cake on controversies has been her revolutionary topless shoot for the Stardust magazine. Photographed in 1993, by Jayesh Sheth, her images in the magazine, which portrayed her allegedly covering her breasts with her hands, created a furor amongst the ultra-conservative groups from all religions, who dragged her to the courts, filing a case against her, for promoting obscenity and vulgarity. In fact, even in the courts, she drew the ire of Islamic fundamentalists, when she wore a burqa to the courts. She was convicted in 20000, and was slapped with a fine of Rs. 15000.
2000 was also the year, when Mamta Kulkarni virtually disappeared from Bollywood. Her films continued to release till 2002, but 2000 was the year, when Mamta began her second, rather sinister innings. She relocated to Kenya, where she married underworld gangster, and drug Mafioso, Vijay aka Vicky Goswami, wanted in connection with several drug cases, including a Rs. 2000 crore drug bust, which is hotly pursued by Thane and Mumbai Police.
How does Mamta come into this picture? Where is she? Some say she is in the U.S., as a spiritual healer, which is absolutely ridiculous. Some say she was in Jumeirah, Dubai, but as per the official sources, including the press releases of Mumbai Police, Mamta is allegedly hand in glove with Vicky Goswami’s powerful drug cartel in Nairobi, Kenya. In fact, using her image as cover , Mamta is said to have struck business deals with several business deals with drug cartels in Maharashtra, many of which happened in the 1997-2012 time frame, when Vicky Goswami was serving his sentence in Dubai for drug trafficking. Coincidentally, the government at the helm of affairs during all these years, with the sole exception of 1997-99 period, was led by Congress. Did it know of Mamta’s affair with drugs? Especially after its indirect links with terrorism have been revealed, post Ishrat Jahan hoax, this might be possible as well.
Now that Vicky is out and on the run, probably the two can create a disaster which might make Maharashtra the next Punjab in terms of drug abuse. In fact, the 2000 crore drug bust is also her own creation, as per the statements of Mumbai Police. Infinite raids have been made on Mamta’s locked flats and her Indian contacts, to establish her link with the drug mafia, with nasty results. It’s a matter of pity that an actress, who used to capture the hearts of moviegoers across India with her ravishing looks, is now allegedly using the same to cover the menace of drugs, which might impede the growth of the youth in India. If not stopped now, probably Mamta Kulkarni can become the next Mireya Moreno Carreon of the drug world.
