Congress LeT Bonhomie: Political Outfits and Militant Organizations

Several political outfits in India have worked in cahoots with terrorist organizations. Such situations have arisen because of common objectives and ideologies, which both sides considered or projected to be their foremost priority. In Jammu and Kashmir, many prominent political outfits and personalities have dabbled with militancy. In the North East, the fine line between terrorist organizations and political outfits has often been non-existent. The Aam Aadmi Party and the communists have supported, sympathized and even housed people belonging to militant movements. All of this interchange has taken place either on an ideological, or a pseudo-ideological populist basis. But imagine a pan Indian mainstream political party, not endorsing but doing business with a terrorist organization!

Stealing from the country’s coffers is common practice. So is dividing the country’s population on the basis of religion and caste to reap political rewards. Controlling the media and using the education machinery to create an agreeable population, is also common practice. As aforementioned, hobnobbing with terrorists and putting national security into jeopardy isn’t rare either. But what is rare is to have some sort of a quid-pro-quo with a terrorist organization which happens to be a leading agent of your most important enemy. In this case, the terrorist organization is the Lashkar-e-Taiba or the LeT, and the most important enemy is Pakistan. Note that this is simply a theory based on certain facts which have come to light.

Congress LeT Bonhomie: How Congress invented the term Saffron Terror

At some point, somebody somewhere must have come to the realization that Pakistan’s non-state actors are two-bit mercenaries. Of course they were created to fulfil Pakistan’s ends, but it is entirely possible that they would work for anybody as long as their core principles were not meddled with. This is not to make anyone look bad, but there is no better explanation for the Samjhauta blast. If it was an anti-India terrorist organization that carried out the blast, they would make sure their identity was well known, and their message lucid. (Sometimes they deny it on record, but make their intentions clear to everyone.) Here we have a scenario in which it is only years later that the perpetrators’ identity has come to our notice. The erstwhile government conveniently coined the phrase ‘saffron terror’ and implicated some saffron clad people for the blast. It manipulated the system, and ignored a UNSC note as well as American intelligence inputs, which indicated an LeT hand. The LeT on its part remained mum. Pardon me, but this comes across as quid pro quo.

Congress LeT Bonhomie: Congress benefited from Tragedies

Let us look at it another way. The Congress Party seems to be that entity which benefitted most from this blast. It defamed the RSS and arrested people belonging to the organization. It took the opportunity to propagate its ‘terror has no religion’ humbug. This suited them politically, and projected their political opponents in a bad light. And all along, for some weird reason, the real perpetrators refused to take credit and let the Congress reap political dividends.

The obvious question to ask next is that if our theory checks out what happened on the ground, then what did the terrorist organization in question get in return? Or, what is it that the erstwhile government had, that they could offer to the enemy’s primary crony? Let us look at how the Manmohan government dealt with the LeT. This is the organization that carried out the 26/11 terror attacks. The Manmohan government’s response was to send some dossiers to Pakistan. This is the organization which attempted to assassinate a sitting chief minister. The Manmohan government’s response was to make a martyr of Ishrat Jahan, one of the terrorists. The encounter she and her cronies had with the Gujarat Police, which has been legitimized by the country’s top forensic labs, was termed as fake. Pardon me once again, but this comes across as a blatant attempt to shield some people.

Congress LeT Bonhomie: Even Mumbai Attacks would have been pinned on RSS but…

One can only imagine what kind of investigations would have been carried out, and what kind of conclusions would have been reached, if Ajmal Kasab was not caught alive after 26/11. Countless stories of investigation officers being coerced to fabricate tales, and witnesses being harassed to tow a false line have emerged. If every terrorist had been gunned down, and there was no Ujwal Nikam on the other side to carry out rigorous cross examination, it is possible that we would have known of 26/11 as ‘Exhibit A’ of ‘saffron terror’. Quid-pro-quo or not, there is hardly a doubt that the previous government cared less about Indian lives than consolidating power and staying put.

Innocent people belonging to the RSS have languished in jail for years, without chargesheets being filed. Lies have been fed to the families of those who were killed, as well as the whole country. Let the truth come out in the open. Let the truth about Malegaon, about how many officers and witnesses were manipulated, and who or which family ordered these manipulations come out in the open. To quote Arnab Goswami who broke the story of Chidambaram’s second affidavit, “The nation wants an answer!”
