The Avengers – Linear story best enjoyed in 3-D

I went to watch The Avengers – Age of Ultron yesterday. I am someone who has spent half of his life thinking that he may get bitten by a spider or get scared by bats or maybe kidnapped by terrorists and will eventually become a super hero, needless to say that I love super hero movies. I booked the best recliner seat in one of the best 3-D cinema halls in the national capital. Superhero movies do not test your analytical brilliance or logical abilities. They are meant to be enjoyed. But I was disappointed, extremely disappointed.

The first installment of Avengers was no classic either. The plot had gaping holes and sometimes things didn’t make sense. But it was enjoyable nonetheless. Robert Downey Junior had crisp dialogues which he

delivered in his typical dry style. Hulk was extremely enjoyable. But for me the star of the show was Tom Hiddleston as Loki. His “Joker” like character was brilliant.

Coming back to the second installment. It is a superhero overdose. It starts with the entire team of avengers fighting a horde of sky flying Chitauris and for most parts in the movie, the avengers keep fighting. Between the fight there is a Karan Johar and Sooraj Barjatya angle. In the Karan Johar angle, Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow) romances Dr. Bruce Banner (Hulk) and even sings lullabies for him (FML). In the Sooraj Barjatya part, Agent Barton (Hawk Eye) enjoys a nice family life in a secret location. Apart from that, Captain America is his usual bossy self. Thor is still the most powerful on papers but just doesn’t justify his Asgardian powers. Hulk doesn’t bring the same excitement that he did in the first part. Dr. Nick Fury doesn’t appear until interval. Falcon ( Captain America’s cronie) makes his entry but doesn’t do a thing, Same for Rhodes(Tony’s buddy). Also there are 2 antagonists cum heroes who have a change of heart sooner than Arvind Kejriwal normally has. There is another superhero Vision who basically is the baap of all superheroes. He can even lift the Mjolnir. The chief antagonist Ultron is quite funny. He never looked intimidating or even scary.

The movie is best enjoyed in 3D but the plot is linear(pun intended), evil forces want to destroy the Earth and Earth’s mightiest superheroes need to save it. And they save without any major twists and turns. The film has occasional shines of brilliance – The superheroes are now friendlier and the scene where all of them try lifting the Mjolnir is amusing. So if you wish to enjoy brilliant VFX, great music, earth shattering effects and of course the superheroes in 3D…go watch the Avengers – Age of Ultron. If you are a sucker for story or logic or soul in a superhero movie, This movie will disappoint me.

2 Stars from me!
