Serum Institute of India (SII), a globally reputed company and the world’s largest manufacturer of vaccines, is at the target of the left-liberal establishment, opposition and foreign governments, especially the USA’s Democrat President Joe Biden. America has been trying to lobby for its expensive Pfizer vaccine in the subcontinent to reap huge profits, owing to the mass population. However, SII’s CEO Adar Poonawalla is not willing to drop the towel, albeit he is taking the fight to the USA by starting the production of coronavirus vaccine in foreign lands.
The pharma giant, which manufactures the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, is going to make a formal announcement of opening a manufacturing unit outside the country in the next few days. Adar Poonawalla told the Times on Friday that “there’s going to be an announcement in the next few days.”
Poonawalla flew to London before Britain banned travellers from India eight days ago to add finishing touches to the proposition. He also added that the Serum Institute would be able to increase its monthly vaccine production to 100 million doses by July this year.

The Biden administration wanted to crush SII when it had stopped the supply of critical raw material needed to manufacture vaccines in India, the factory of the global vaccine production, especially for the poor countries. Poonawalla back then had requested President Joe Biden to stop the embargo on the export of raw material.
“Respected @POTUS, if we are to truly unite in beating this virus, on behalf of the vaccine industry outside the U.S., I humbly request you to lift the embargo of raw material exports out of the U.S. so that vaccine production can ramp up. Your administration has the details,” tweeted Poonawalla with folded hands emoji.

When asked if President Joe Biden’s administration had decided on the requests made from India to lift the ban on the export of vaccine raw materials to India, State Department spokesperson Ned Price had insensitively remarked, “We have a special responsibility to the American people.” Before adding “It’s, of course, not only in our interest to see Americans vaccinated, it’s in the interests of the rest of the world to see Americans vaccinated,”
Pfizer and Moderna are the best vaccines. They have been out since Dec-2020. Why don't we have them in India yet? Do we not deserve the best? Don't we buy defense equipment from abroad? Is this not a war like situation? Why does the vaccine have to be made here and only here?

After receiving huge backlash from the entire globe for being so obtuse, Biden had to reverse his decision and had to come out in support of India and reinstate the supply chain.
Despite being a middle-income country, India, through SII, has exported more than 36 crore doses of Covid vaccine and donated crores of vaccines to poor nations. On the other hand, the Biden administration has tried to work to the detriment of the company and India. By announcing that SII will be opening up in other countries, Adar Poonawalla is coming for the expensive American variant of the covid vaccines.
