Right from the day the US President Trump proposed Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) as a preventive and cure in fight against the Coronavirus disease, the liberal media, opposition and big pharmaceutical companies have come together to aggressively oppose the drug. The global community is now divided over a drug amid this pandemic, and everyone is trying to influence the results of the research being done on the effectivity of the drug.
Studies are being published wherein a far higher than the recommended dosage of the anti-Malarial drug HCQ is being administered to patients to prove its failure. Los Angeles Times, and influential American newspaper with self-avowed anti-Trump stance, published a story titled ‘Malaria drugs fail to help coronavirus patients in controlled studies and argued that the studies conducted in China, France, and Brazil have “received a decidedly more sober assessment of their coronavirus-fighting potential” to prove the case.
Few other newspapers like Democracy Now and Science Alert published articles on how 11 Brazilian patients died after doses of HCQ to treat them, but ‘forgot’ to mention that these patients have been given 3 times higher dose than recommended. Reuters, which generally publishes fact checks to bust fake news, published a fact check that the story of the death of 11 patients and halt of the study thereafter is true.
Later, it came out that the Brazilian researchers have not just given three times higher dose of HCQ to COVID-19 patients, but it was also sponsored by left-wing senators of the country. “The study was apparently funded with federal grant money allocated by left-wing senators in Brazil. Left-wing politicians in numerous countries are campaigning against HCQ, even though it’s been proven effective!” tweeted Mike Coudrey, with a screenshot of the claim that the study is carried out under political influence.

The Chinese trial also took place under heavy dose, 3 times more than recommended. In spite of that, the results from China were encouraging. As per the report, “patients who got hydroxychloroquine reported they felt better than their counterparts who did not.”
Similarly to the left-wing funded Brazilian study, this Chinese clinical trial for COVID19 used extremely high doses of Hydroxychloroquine, quite literally overdosing their patients.

Moreover, In an interview given to French CNews channel and during a podcast by Pourquoi Docteur, professor Montagnier who co-discovered HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) claimed the presence of elements of HIV in the genome of the coronavirus and even elements of the “germ of malaria” are highly suspect, according to a report in Asia Times.
There are two reasons behind global ‘liberal’ media to push against the anti-malarial drug: First being that HCQ is pushed by Trump and liberal media’s hatred towards the person overshadows their logical reasoning to objectively analyze the pros and cons of the drug, and the second one being that more than 70 per cent of the global supply of HCQ comes from India.
The Big media companies like Bloomberg, Financial Times, and Forbes are promoting a drug named by Remdesivir, produced by American biotechnology major Gilead Sciences.
The same firms which argued that there is no scientific evidence of Hydroxychloroquine’s effectiveness as a preventive drug are now writing articles claiming that Gilead’s drug is magically improving the conditions in majority of COVID-19 patients. While HCQ is a cheap generic drug which can be accessible to more people around the world, Remdisivir is freshly patented and expensive.
Bloomberg published a story titled “Two-Thirds of Severe Covid-19 Cases Improved on Gilead Drug” on April 11 to promote the anti-COVID-19 drug developed by Gilead Sciences.
On April 10, the same Bloomberg published a story titled, “Malaria Drug Hype Lures Macron as Hope Gets Ahead of Science” mocking the faith of the French President in the drug that is primarily produced in India.

On this, Nassim Nicholas Taleb, the famous philosopher and economist who was among the first few intellectuals to point out towards the dangers of not taking tough steps towards containment of this pandemic, tweeted, “Chloroquine: Does Big Pharma owns the media? + Studies are said to be “not rigorous” when it comes to Chloroquine in spite of robust statistical signal + Studies w/less rigor and significance are promoted when it comes to drugs by Gilead Note: Chl was OTC, costs 1 Euro a pack,” with image of both Bloomberg stories in contrast

The list of the other media house which carried out a story against HCQ, that too without any scientific evidence, could be read here.
The FDA approval of HCQ as preventive drug is great news for India and its pharmaceutical industry, as more than 70 percent of the global supply of the drug is met by Indian companies- primarily Ipca Labs and Zycus.
